Spirit Eliminates Vitality at BLAST Spring Final: Full Semifinal Match Report

Team Vitality and Team Spirit clash in the first semifinal of the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024 playoffs in front of a crowd at the OVO Arena Wembley in London, fighting for a spot in the grand finale.

To get to the semifinals, Vitality bounced back from a VP reverse sweep and eliminated G2 Esports with a 2-1 map score. In the quarterfinals, Vitality sent FaZe packing with a reverse sweep. Team Spirit dominated Group B, reverse sweeping G2 Esports and then 2-0'ing VP to claim a spot directly in the semifinals.

Vitality vs. Spirit Map 1 Mirage

On Spirit's map pick of Mirage, they started on the T side, with Vitality on the CT side. Vitality kicked the semifinal off with a bang, easily taking the pistol round and then converting another with just one casualty, taking a 2-0 lead.

In the third round, Spirit got rifles in hand, but Vitality held their ground, locking Spirit out of any type of significant map control. With confidence and aggression, Vitality claimed another to make it 4-0.

With Shahar "flameZ" Shushan on fire, Vitality smacked Spirit's gun round into the ground in the 5th, before Spirit put themselves on the board in the 6th with a half-buy and a double Deagle kill from IGL Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov.

Spirit couldn't pick up a consecutive round and called their second of three tactical timeouts in just seven rounds of play. Vitality continued to put the pressure on Spirit, claiming the 8th and 9th rounds in quick succession, with ZywOo hitting multiple kills per round with his trusty AWP. 

With incredible momentum on their side, Vitality closed out the first half of Mirage with a convincing 10-2.

With teams switching sides, Spirit took the pistol round as CTs and converted another as Vitality went for an eco. With Vitality's first gun round on the T side, Spirit made the perfect call to defend the A site, securing three in a row.

In the 16th round, Vitality was on an eco, but after two kills from FlameZ, they were given a chance, which they grabbed expertly to stabilize and make the score 11-5.

Spirit didn't just lay down without a fight, picking up steam and winning the next few rounds in a row, closing the gap and putting fear into the hearts of Vitality fans across the globe.

After a close call in the 20th round, Vitality finally broke Spirit's streak in the 21st after a back-and-forth fight to put themselves on map point with a 12-9 score. Spirit pulled one back yet again, and we could hear the crowd boo.

With the odds stacked against them and a measly buy in hand, Vitality took it away from Spirit in the 24th round after a slight misstep in mid, winning Mirage 13-11.

Vitality vs. Spirit Map 2 Dust2

On Vitality's map pick of Dust2, they kicked things off on the T side while Spirit was on the defense on the CT side. Vitality quite literally rushed B and got the bomb plant, but sh1ro got two quick kills before flameZ clutched in a 2v1 situation, earning a pat on the head from apEX and securing the pistol round, then converted the next.

Spirit lost the third round as well before their first full buy, including two AWPs. After a messy round ending on the A site, Spirit got on the board. Early on Dust2, it was 3-1 in the favor of Vitality.

In the 5th round, Danil "donk" Kryshkovets came alive, securing a flawless win, but Spirit failed to convert as Vitality took the A site and a 4-2 lead.

In the 8th round, Vitality dropped the ball, losing against Spirit's pistols after heroics from Myroslav "zont1x" Plakhotja on the B site. 

With renewed vigor, Spirit became relentless on the CT side and pulled back three rounds in a row to tie up the scoreline 5-5, and importantly, breaking Vitality's confidence. In the final round of the first half, it was too close to call, as teams tied 6-6. 

As teams switched sides, Spirit looked uncertain on the T side as Vitality claimed the pistol round. Spirit did, however, get a bomb plant and, therefore, managed to scrape together a decent buy.

Spirit pulled one back to tie up Dust2 7-7, winning on the force buy and putting Vitality in a difficult situation. Vitality was forced to save in the 15th round as Spirit slowly dismantled their economy.

With brilliant calls from IGL Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov, Spirit pulled ahead 9-7 before Vitality finally responded with a nearly clean round, only losing one player in the 17th round, then took another to tie up Dust2 with a 9-9 scoreline.

In the 19th round, Spirit pulled ahead yet again after busting open the B site and pulling ahead 10-9. 

Spirit again put pressure on the B site and got another round win to inch ahead with an 11-9 score, despite Vitality taking out donk early on in the round. Spirit then propelled themselves to map point (12-9) as the crowd's boos got louder and finished off with an A site attack to claim Dust2 with a 13-9 score and push the match to a third and deciding map.

Vitality vs. Spirit Map 3 Anubis

On the third map, Anubis, Spirit elected to start on the CT side, a strange choice. In the pistol round, mezzi and ZywOo both scored two kills to secure a win and converted for an early 2-0 lead.

Vitality continued to push their advantage, and the British Rifler scored a couple of multi kills with the crowd chanting his name. Early on Anubis, Vitality claimed a 4-0 lead on the T side before another gun round from Spirit with two AWPs thrown into the mix.

On the back of sh1ro, Spirit got on the board in the 5th round and kept both AWPs in play. Vitality got an early pick in the 6th round, but Spirit recovered to win their second in a row on the CT side of Anubis. For reference, Anubis is considered a T-favored map.

With renewed energy, Spirit shut down Vitality's execute play in the 7th round and converted a close round to tie up Anubis with a 4-4 scoreline. This prompted Vitality to take a tactical timeout before their next gun round.

The pause did wonders, as, in the 9th round, Vitality pulled one back. Vitality took full advantage of a few minor blunders from Spirit to pull ahead 7-4 on the T side. As the first half of Anubis came to a close, Spirit pulled back a round, and it was 7-5 in favor of Vitality.

Spirit got off to a great start on the T side, with sh1ro scoring four kills to claim the pistol round. Vitality responded with a low buy, catching Spirit by surprise to respond with a round win on the CT side for an 8-6 lead.

In the 15th round, Vitality over-extended just a bit, and Spirit took full advantage, clawing one back on a half-buy. Then, Spirit responded with a close 16th round to tie things up yet again with an 8-8 scoreline.

Spirit then pulled two rounds ahead with a 10-8 scoreline on the T side of Anubis, with the young guns in hyper-focus, clicking heads over and over again. With an 11-8 lead, Spirit was on a 5-round win streak, showing why they chose to play on the CT side first.

Spirit put themselves on map point in the 20th round, and Vitality bounced back with a win in the 21st. However, in the 22nd round, Spirit shut down Vitality on Anubis, winning the map 13-9 and the series 2-1.
