Xbox Showcase Reveals Life Is Strange: Double Exposure Marking Return For Max Caulfield

Japanese publisher Square Enix was featured during the Xbox Showcase at this year's Summer Game Fest with a few announcements and reveals to present. One of these announcements was the return to an acclaimed franchise, Life Is Strange, as developer Deck Nine Games will handle the next installment, Double Exposure.

According to an official press release, Square Enix confirmed that Life Is Strange: Double Exposure will arrive on consoles and PCs in October this year, with pre-orders going live soon. A Reveal Livestream to discuss the upcoming title is scheduled for July 2024, which will spotlight the development process and some "behind-the-scenes secrets."

The announcement of the latest Life Is Strange game, Double Exposure, also marks the return of one of the franchise's most beloved protagonists, Max Caulfield. Max was previously seen in the first entry, Life Is Strange, whose five episodes were released periodically throughout 2015 and developed by original developer Dontnod Entertainment, and the Farewell DLC for the game's prequel, Beyond the Storm.

Double Exposure catches up with Max sometime following the events of Life Is Strange and the fate of Acadia Bay based on players' decisions throughout its campaign. Now an adult, Max once again attempts to turn back the hands of time using her rewinding powers to uncover the mysteries behind the death of her friend, Safi, whom she discovers in the snow.

Max opens the way to a parallel timeline where Safi is still alive and still in danger! Max realizes the killer will soon strike again – in both versions of reality. Only Max can Shift between the two parallel timelines to solve and prevent the same murder.

Square Enix confirmed that players can learn more about the next mainline entry, Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, as a Reveal Livestream is planned for 13th July 2024 at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET / 4 pm UTC on the official Life Is Strange YouTube channel. As stated before, Life Is Strange: Double Exposure will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Windows on 29th October 2024, with a Nintendo Switch release planned with more details to follow in the coming months.
