Spirit Wins BLAST Spring Final 2024: Full Grand Final Match Report

After four days of non-stop Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports action, it's time for the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024 Grand Final to rock the OVO Arena Wembley in London, with NAVI facing off against Spirit for the lion's share of the $425,000 prize pool, and a coveted spot at the BLAST World Final 2024.

To earn a spot directly in the semifinals, NAVI topped Group A by shutting Astralis down with a 2-0 and beating FaZe Clan 2-1. The side is playing some incredible CS, the likes we haven't seen since the Major, according to IGL Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen. In the semifinals, NAVI swept Virtus.pro to the side in convincing fashion, and Lithuanian lurker Justinas "jL" Lekavičius's confidence shined through. 

Team Spirit dominated Group B, reverse sweeping G2 Esports and then 2-0'ing VP to claim a spot directly in the semifinals. In the semifinals, Spirit had to reverse-sweep Vitality to claim a spot in the grand finale, and star player Danil "donk" Kryshkovets said it was the hardest BO3 he's had to play.

Spirit is the favorite going into the Grand Final. However, NAVI's IGL thinks if there's one place they can beat Spirit, it's on stage. We can't wait to find out!

NAVI vs. Spirit Map 1 Ancient

Both teams sounded confident stepping into the Grand Final, but of course, the match began with Spirit's map pick of Ancient, a stronghold for the side this season.

Starting on the T side, Spirit recovered from a 2v3 situation after losing the bomb to claim the pistol round and then converted for a 2-0 lead. NAVI's first gun round fell flat as well, as Spirit deleted the CTs with ease, and converted yet again for a 4-0 lead.

After a failed defense and a save from NAVI in the 5th, NAVI managed to put themselves in a 4v3 situation, but Spirit bounced back for six in a row, holding the line in the post-plant.

On the 7th round on Ancient, NAVI finally got on the board and quickly took another as the crowd cheered. NAVI tried to keep up the pace and put pressure on Spirit but lost too many bodies in the 9th round.

With some intense midround calls from Spirit, they kept knocking down the bomb sites and went on another streak. At the end of the first half, it was 10-2 in Spirit's favor. 

As teams switched sides, NAVI had no room for error. NAVI kicked off the T side with a fantastic B-site attack and held, with Aleksib finishing off the pistol round with a 2v1 clutch from IGL Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen.

NAVI then survived a force buy from Spirit and converted against pistols. Early on in the second half of Ancient, Spirit was 10-5 ahead, with NAVI closing the gap a bit.

In the 16th round, Spirit had their first gun round on the CT side of Ancient, and Danil "donk" Kryshkovets delivered with three kills, forcing the remaining two from NAVI to give up the round.

In the 17th round, NAVI recovered expertly and hit Spirit hard in the 18th to damage their economy, forcing an eco. NAVI then converted Spirit's eco (which was a bit too close for comfort with b1t having to click 3 heads) to close the gap significantly.

In the 20th round, NAVI shut down Spirit's gun round, and then disaster struck with an unfortunate team kill on NAVI's side, losing to a save from Spirit, who put themselves on map point with 12-9.

NAVI hit the B site in the 22nd round with only 30 seconds on the clock, and Spirit managed to defend expertly to close Ancient out with a 13-9 win.  

NAVI vs. Spirit Map 2 Dust2

On NAVI's map pick of Dust2, a back-and-forth pistol round went the way of Spirit, and they converted for a 2-0 lead despite NAVI getting three kills with only pistols. In the 3rd round, NAVI guns came out, but Spirit held strong to shut down the attack and then converted another pistol for a 4-0 lead.

In a critical 5th round with NAVI on a buy, Spirit stood their ground and held the A site, forcing NAVI into a tactical timeout, as Spirit was on a 5-round streak. It was clear the timeout worked, as NAVI pulled back one in the 6th round with an incredible ace from Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen!

NAVI kept up the pressure, planting on the B site in the 7th round and damaging Spirit's CT economy, and followed up with a rather close win in the 8th, despite Spirit only having one hero AK.

Spirit clawed one back in the 9th round, stopping NAVI's streak and slowing down an on-fire Aleksib. NAVI responded in the 10th with a close but effective fight on A Long and Catwalk, where they all died to Spirit, but the bomb exploded in time, putting the crowd on the edge of their seats.

NAVI pushed the A site again in the 11th round in what can only be described as a dirty fight that swung their way. Despite jL's best efforts, Spirit robbed away the 12th round with a lesser buy, and as the teams switched sides, Spirit was 7-5 ahead.

Spirit got off to a strong start on the T side of Dust2, getting a bomb plant on the A site and securing the round, despite three kills from Justinas "jL" Lekavičius. Spirit then converted from the pistol to take a 9-5 lead on Dust2.

On NAVI's first gun round of the second half, Spirit opted for a B split play, but jL shut them down completely with another three kills, this time on defense of the B site.

In the 16th round, NAVI put on the pressure with some aggressive plays to claim another win and broke Spirit's economy in the process. Then, NAVI converted to close the gap on Dust2.

With a solid defense on the A site and some nasty fights on A Long, NAVI forced Spirit to back off in the 18th round and tied up Dust2 with a 9-9 scoreline. However, in the 19th round, Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov cut down multiple NAVI players at Mid Doors.

In the 20th round, Spirit did something uncharacteristic, surprising NAVI by running through the smoke with less than 20 seconds left from the Catwalk side, and managed to get a plant, then secure a win for an 11-9 scoreline in their favor.

NAVI got struck down by Spirit in the 21st round as Spirit put themselves on map point with a 12-9 score. With NAVI's economy damaged and a lowish buy, Spirit finished up NAVI's pick of Dust2 with a 13-9 win.

NAVI vs. Spirit Map 3 Mirage

With Spirit on a 2-0 map score in the Grand Final of BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024, Mirage was a do-or-die affair for NAVI.

NAVI fans rejoiced as the team finally got a good pistol round win at the start of Mirage on the CT side and converted for an early 2-0 lead. That was the first time in the entire series that NAVI had a lead on a map...

As Spirit's guns came out, they left it to 30 seconds on the clock, and NAVI shut them down expertly, showing more aggression than we've seen in the first two maps. NAVI took the 3rd and shut down Spirit's low buy to claim a 4-0 lead. In the 5th round, with a full buy from Spirit, NAVI clipped their wings for a 5-round win streak.

In the 6th round, NAVI gave Spirit no room to work on an A site attack, putting up a dominating performance with Ihor "w0nderful" Zhdanov's AWP ringing through the server.

In the 9th round, Aleksib was still yet to die. NAVI pushed their advantage with momentum, and the crowd cheered. NAVI had a 9-0 lead. After a close round and a B site finish, Spirit finally got one on the board. NAVI instantly responded with a win in the 11th, and Spirit got the 12th. As the teams switched sides, NAVI had a 10-2 lead.

Spirit got off to a good start on the CT side of Mirage with a clean pistol round and converted against NAVI's full eco. In the 15th round, NAVI's rifles came out for the first time on the T side, and they prospered with a monster round, with all five players alive, to give themselves an 11-4 lead.

Spirit force bought in the 16th round and pushed for the A site, planting the bomb, but NAVI deflected on the defense to put themselves on match point.

In the 17th round, NAVI crushed Spirit's hopes and won Mirage 13-4, pushing the Grand Final of the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024 to a 4th map.

NAVI vs. Spirit Map 4 Nuke

With NAVI's map pick of Nuke, they started on the T-side, carrying over the momentum from Mirage for a pistol round win, and converted in the 2nd round, keeping all five alive, before Spirit's first gun round in the 3rd.

In the 3rd round, NAVI went for a B site play, and Spirit's Myroslav "zont1x" Plakhotja just decimated their attack. Then, in the 4th round, NAVI pushed the A site and held expertly after dodgy fights around Garage to extend their lead to 3-1.

Spirit responded with a decent hold, finishing on the B Ramp to claw one back. As a tech pause was called, the crowd showed their support for Counter-Strike, as you can see in the image below.

Spirit equalized in the 6th round, and as NAVI saved again, Spirit pulled ahead with a 4-3 lead and took NAVI down in the Outside area to extend their lead to 5-3.

In an incredible 9th round, NAVI with just pistols and a hero AK, nearly got a win, but Spirit managed to defuse the bomb with just 1.18 seconds left. 

Despite another close round in the 10th, Spirit kept pulling further ahead before NAVI put them down in a clean 11th round accompanied by a bomb plant for some extra cash in the final round of the half.

NAVI took down the 12th round with solid plays on the A site, and as teams switched sides, Spirit was 7-5 ahead. In the second half of Nuke, NAVI found themselves on the CT side in defense. 

Spirit rushed B in the opening round of the second half of Nuke on the T side, punished NAVI, and then converted for a 9-5 lead. On NAVI's first rifle round of the half, Spirit took the A site quickly, and three players from NAVI were forced to save.

In an important 16th round, NAVI pulled one back rather cleanly to keep Spirit on their toes, shutting them down with some fast picks.

Spirit responded in the 17th round, pulling apart NAVI's defense and then destroying hopes in the 18th round, putting themselves on the map and match point with a 12-6 lead on Nuke.

It all ended in the 19th round on the A site of Nuke, as Spirit slammed down a final NAVI defense.

Spirit wins Nuke 13-6 and the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024 Grand Final with a 3-1 scoreline. Congratulations!
