June Nintendo Direct will be all about games with 'no mention' of Switch 2

With speculation and excitement continuing to reach astronomical levels as the rumored Nintendo Switch successor or "Switch 2" gets closer to becoming a reality, the latest Nintendo Direct is heading off that discussion at the pass. We've now learned official details about the date and time for the June Nintendo Direct. While exact topics weren't confirmed, they did make a point to tell us which one they'll be willfully avoiding.

June 17 Nintendo Direct to have 'no mention' of Switch 2

Just one day prior to the stream, the next Nintendo Direct has been formally announced for June 18, 2024 at exactly 7am PT / 10am ET. It's not uncommon for Nintendo to be scarce on details heading into these, as much of tomorrow's excitement will be driven by specific game reveals and new trailers.

They did, however, make sure to tell everyone that this Nintendo Direct will have "no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor." We all know it's coming. They know we know it's coming. They just aren't ready to talk about it. Unfortunately, the wait for official Switch 2 news continues.

The presentation will be roughly 40 minutes in length, and with no Switch 2 talk they'll be focused instead on Nintendo Switch games set to release later this year. We could get some final looks at Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble or Luigi's Mansion 2 HD ahead of their release later this month, but those likely won't be the centerpiece.

After being announced a handful of years ago, there's still hope that a Metroid Prime 4 trailer could arrive. In a more recent development, Pokemon Legends Z-A was confirmed earlier this year, but it's currently expected for 2025 and may not be the focal point this time.

The more likely Pokemon news could be the highly requested and anticipated release of original Pokemon games like Red, Blue, Gold, and Silver for the Nintendo Switch Online library. Many other Game Boy and Game Boy Advance classics have made the cut, but the series that arguably skyrocketed the growth of both platforms is still hoping to find a way back to Nintendo platforms after the death of the 3DS eShop.
